Tenure and Promotion Criteria

In 2020, the Design Faculty proposed new Tenure and Promotion Criteria to better reflect the reality of the communication design practice at a research-intensive institution. After a positive vote by school faculty, approval by the UF administration, and a consultation with the United Faculty of Florida – UF, the Criteria went into effect in 2021 and is now the standard for design faculty in the School of Art + Art History. Criteria begin on page 15 of the School of Art + Art History Bylaws.

Tenure-track Faculty Probationary Period

The College of the Arts: 7 years

“A faculty member in a tenure-eligible position must pursue nomination for tenure no later than the beginning of the last year of the tenure probationary period. Consideration can be given to an earlier date if the candidate’s record meets criteria for distinction (a determination made by the faculty member in consultation with the Chair).”
